Baltimore, Maryland is the 26th largest city in the United States and is steadily growing. With increases in population every year the Baltimore Metropolitan Area has become the 20th largest in America. After being founded in 1729, Baltimore became known as a manufacturing city. Manufacturing boomed throughout the 1800s and immigrants from around the world traveled to Baltimore and made it the second largest entry point for immigrants throughout the United States. Baltimore is now the second largest seaport in the U.S. and is more of an institutional city, supporting Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Hospitals and Clinics as well as a key player in the science, engineering and technology world. In addition to its industries, the Charm City is also known for its vibrant culture, seafood, history, music, and of course winning football team.
